InterfaceNZ Sustainability Goals & KPI's - interfaceNZ

Sustainability is central to the philosophy and business objectives of InterfaceNZ. InterfaceNZ represents all aspects of InterfaceFLOR within New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. However it is a separate company with local Directors and a real Kiwi can do attitude.

InterfaceNZ recycles Interface carpet tile (and our competitors PVC backed nylon carpet tile) at our own cost. The car fleet is made up of Toyota Prius entirely. Our new offices were fitted out under the direction of the Australian Fitout tool in 2007 as NZ’s fit out tool hadn’t been developed at that stage. And InterfaceNZ is undergoing carboNZero certification with Landcare Research to ensure our carbon footprint is fully offset. These are local initiatives driven by local owners who are fully committed to the InterfaceFLOR mission Zero programme. [By 2020 having a zero ecological footprint].

In summary Interface operates systems thinking for delivering on Mission Zero. www.forumforthefuture.org.nz provides a roadmap for Sustainable product leadership.

  1. Strategy in place to make all products and sustainable.
  2. Whole-life closed loop thinking drives product introductions.
  3. Products target specific challenges and have a net positive environmental or social impact.
  4. Limiting consumer’s opportunities to select unsustainable products is built into the product stewardship process.
  5. Continuous innovation drives product development.

Interface carpet tile meets all this criteria. Product Stewardship is the ultimate goal for product suppliers. Being able to take back your own waste and remake it back into something new, completely closing the loop.

Interface's philosophy has always been to replace Take, Make, Waste into Waste = Food. We are now in this situation. We will take back our carpet tile (and even our competitors based on key criteria) and remake it into new carpet tile. This removes landfill from New Zealand and reduces the embodied energy by up to 90% of making new carpet tile from virgin materials. Please join us on our journey. Always specify carpet tile and always specify that it must have post-consumer recycled content and be recyclable at the end of its life.
