InterfaceFLOR's new i2 range of modular floorcoverings features inherently diverse modules that are randomly laid to create a unique floorplate with several functional benefits. Replacement modules blend seamlessly, if severe damage should occur. The random laying of the product also reduces installation costs and creates approximately 90% less installation waste than conventional carpet. The product also enables quick and easy re-configuration of the floorcovering, particularly useful in office environments where churn is commonplace.InterfaceFLOR i2 explores variation — light and shadow and the interplay of colours. "The goal was to find out what could be learned about the natural design system — there is no perfect flower and there is no solid colour; it's just a diverse system. The goal then turned to designing modules the way nature designs, aesthetically, its modules," said David Oakey. The in-built variations within the i2 modules make dye lots irrelevant, so replacement tiles blend with the existing flooring, without the need to carry attic stock, significantly increasing the lifecycle of the product. Due the lack of dye lots, i2 is also ideal for progressive installations. Importantly though, InterfaceFLOR i2 is engineered for hardwearing, long-lasting performance that maintains appearance in high traffic environments. The product is highly resistant to discolouration from extreme wear, spills or cleaning chemicals due to the Antron Lumena® solution dyed fibre technology. Engineered for a long lifecycle, the i2 range is warranted for a 15-year period.
The nylon 6,6 polymer also prevents the matting and crushing associated with traditional carpets while the DuraTech® soil repellent provides outstanding cleanability. InterfaceFLOR's superior backing technology prevents the warping, wrinkling and ravelling often associated with broadloom. The backing is impermeable so that moisture does not penetrate to the subfloor. As well as being a significant transition towards zero waste in manufacturing and a major step in InterfaceFLOR's sustainability journey, i2 products are also the first to be incorporated into the Cool Carpet™ programme in the Asia-Pacific region. The total greenhouse gas emissions of the entire life of the carpet are offset through the support of projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions approved by the Climate Neutral Network.
